  1.           A Unique Translation of Medieval Typographic 
  2.                   Forms into Computer Graphics

  4.      Our images are faithful copies of medieval letterforms and
  5. ornaments created in bronze, stone, wood, and other materials. 
  6. Each volume contains a complete set of capital letters, ornaments
  7. and other decorative elements.  The images are available in
  8. Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) format for Macintosh computers, and
  9. in two formats for IBM PC compatible computers:  Encapsulated
  10. PostScript (.EPS) and the native CorelDRAW! (.CDR) format.
  11.  
  12.      The images can be scaled to any size and used as clip art,
  13. drop cap letters, or ornaments, or they can be modified by
  14. drawing programs which can import .EPS files.
  15.  
  16.      Our four volumes (as of September 1991) are:
  17.  
  18.      Vol. I -- "Westminster Abbey" based on lettering and
  19.      ornaments in early XV century monuments from the Westminster
  20.      Abbey.
  21.  
  22.      Vol. II -- "Pontificale of John II," based on the
  23.      Pontificale of John II, Archbishop of Treves, late XV
  24.      century.
  25.  
  26.      Vol. III -- "The Golden Bible," based on The Golden Bible of
  27.      Augsburg, late XV century.  Plus some ornaments from
  28.      Cramer's Bible, early XVI century.
  29.  
  30.      Vol. IV -- "St. Mary of Soest,"  based on an embroidered XIV
  31.      century alter cloth in the Church of St. Mary at Soest,
  32.      Westphalia, Germany.

  34. Look for more volumes in the future.  This is a long term
  35. project, and our range is continually being expanded.

  39.      We've released this sampler, consisting of 12 images typical
  40. of our offerings, so you can see the quality of our collection
  41. for yourself.  These images are copyrighted by BBL Typographic
  42. and are NOT public domain.  You may, however, use them freely in
  43. your desktop publishing projects. You may also share them with
  44. your friends and upload them to computer bulletin boards PROVIDED
  45. that (1) they may not be sold for profit, (2) they may not be
  46. redistributed without this README file attached, and (3) they may
  47. not be distributed in altered form.  You are however, welcome to
  48. modify them for your own personal use.
